Inspiration

Inspiration sometimes comes from the most ordinary things… šŸ¤”

My author bio, featured on this page and on the back cover of Roots and Wings, emphasizes that I enjoy people- and animal-watching and listening to what God might have to say about it.

Inspiration for the book came from exactly that. I don’t remember where I was or exactly when I saw it, but it was definitely a bird in the sky and a solitary thought, ā€œI wonder where she’s going.ā€ Along with a heavy dose of, ā€œI wish I could be that free.ā€ So…

  • Animal-watching… check! 🪶
  • What God has to say about it… check! Or… at least what I believe He inspired me to write. šŸ˜¶ā€šŸŒ«ļø

When that initial inspiration happens, it’s anyone’s guess as to where it will go. Sometimes, it will end up in a completed story. Sometimes, the thought will wither away because I didn’t take the time to develop it. Honestly, that’s where they mostly end up. But sometimes, I’ll take the time to write it down and develop it. Although the full process can be maddening at times, it can also be magical. From beginning to end, I’m never absolutely certain where it will end up. The story and characters take on a life of their own. It’s as if I was just the conduit to set the story free.

I feel privileged to be the one to tell it; to be the one God chooses this way. 🄰

Roots and Wings is such a short story, but now, after all is said and done and it’s in this sweet book form, I’d like to pull apart the elements that make the story what it is. My plan for this blog is to write a short series to focus on the different elements of the story.

I hope you’ll come along. šŸ˜‰
